What made The battle of Midway such a turning point in the Pacific theater of World War 2?
A. The U.S defeated the Japanese navy and established naval superiority in the Pacific.
B. The Japanese failed to destroy all of the U.S carrier groups in this battle.
C. It put an end to Japan's highly effective kamikaze attacks.
D. It saved Australia from the threat of Japanese invasion.

Midway was the "FIRST" Naval defeat of the Japanese because it destroyed a number of their aircraft carriers and "attack fleet". The Battle of the Bismark Sea which was mostly Australian aircraft, with some minor assistance from US B-17s, against a Japanese fleet was equally damaging to the Japanese. The Battle of the Coral Sea which was a mixture of US and Australian navies destroyed another Japanese fleet slightly later. The three combined battles at sea caused the greatest naval losses for the Japanese.
The First Land Defeat of the Japanese was on the Kokoda Track in Papua New Guinea when a few hundred Australian "Militia" (Reservists) held back and turned back over 6,000 of the Japanese land army. The complete defeat was completed by the Australian Regular Army who had just returned from fighting Rommel in North Africa and sent to reinforce the Militia units.
The three sea battles broke the back of the Japanese navy while the Kokoda Track battle broke the idea of " Invincibility" of the Japanese Army.
