Elvis Presley biography: Anniversary of Elvis Presley Death
August the 16th 2009 was a monumental date for many people worldwide. It marked the 40th anniversary of The King's death. It was marked throughout the world in many different ways. As any good Elvis Presley biography will tell you, at 3.30pm on the 16th of August 1969, Elvis was pronounced dead on arrival at the Baptist Memorial Hospital Memphis.
When the news that Elvis Presley had died reached the people, they mourned en mass outside his home, Graceland.
Today, hundreds of Elvis impersonators pay their respects by visiting Graceland and Elvis' final resting place. Dedicated fans hold candle lit vigils throughout the night and his music is remembered and frequently re released to help The King's messages transcend throughout the generations.
So, why is the anniversary of the death of Elvis still so poignant and important today? Elvis was more than just a singer; he was a legend and is still the inspiration behind many of today's music stars. On July 20, 1913 J.D. Pressley married Minnie Mae Hood.
Jessie served in the U.S. Army (Stateside) during World War I.
On April 10, 1916 in Fulton, Mississippi their first child was born, Vernon Presley (1916-1978), Elvis Presley's father.
Elvis' maternal heritage through to his mother, Gladys:
Elvis' grandmother was Doll Mansell (1876-1935) who was married to Bob Smith (1873-1931).
Gladys Love Smith who was born on April 25, 1912.

Elvis's lineage can be traced quite a way back and it includes
his great-great grandparents; William Mansell and Morning Dove White.
Morning Dove was full blood Cherokee indian.
